orbit chandelier

have you ever seen a chandelier more swoon worthy? i adore the whimsical and unexpected woven shape, and the exposed bulbs (a personal favorite). using a tension/compression design based on the same principal as suspension bridge – i’m certain that illuminating a space has never been more interesting.

let there be light

A while back I wrote a post lamenting over the loss of my old bedside floor lamp. After months and months of searching I finally found the perfect one!
This is what it looks like (in a gorgeous dining room that I wish was my own…):

Check back for an update with a photo of my bedroom!
UPDATE:
Bed: Hastens
Linens: Dwell Studio
Rug: cow hide straight from a farm in Wyoming
Frame above bed: Vintage Hermes scarf

hardware

LOVE these decorative knobs and handles. Perfect way to spruce up an old dresser or add some unexpected flair to an entrance way… The first row is my favorite – I am a sucker for distressed glass!

starbursts and lattice

I recently got myself some new sheets but absolutely wish I had seen these before purchasing! I am a huge fan of both the lattice and starburst print although I would have to say I favor the lattice – especially the yellow and gray. These are truly perfect for spring!

source of inspiration

I love these decor photographs of by Mark Lund. They are absolutely exquisite. I am also quite a fan of the styling in each space. Amazing uses of color, textiles, accent furniture and tasteful accessories. These beauties are inspiring!

golden light

I spotted these three lights on one of my favorite blogs oh joy! – I am a golden girl through and through so I absolutely adore these pendents. Tres chic!

{left to right: artek golden bell, artek beehive, and michele de lucchi acquamiki.}

shower curtain

I have decided to re-vamp some of the rooms in my apartment, well actually just two: the bathroom and bedroom. Since my bathroom is small this pretty much only allows for a new shower curtain, bath mat and maybe new decorative accessories. These are a few shower curtains that I like… Thoughts? I will be sure to keep you posted on other plans as they solidify. One thing is for certain – I am painting a wall in my bedroom! Exciting stuff!

Beginning top left, clockwise: bella shower curtain, woolrich buffalo check, hippos, cityscape, singing in the rain, marimekko almond, arbor tree, fresco fabric,

a touch of toile

Some may say toile is old fashioned or belongs in a country home – but I think otherwise… Working Class Studio has released a collection of brightly colored toile accessories (pillows, aprons, kitchen towels, oven mitts and pot holders included) – bringing a modern touch to a traditional pattern. Lovely!

home tour

I love looking through pictures of the interiors of homes (this shouldn’t come as a surprise…) — especially those located in New York City – and ESPECIALLY those in New York City that are absolutely and insanely gorgeous. Like this one, that belongs to Amy Beth Cupp Dragoo of ABCD Design and her husband. Stunning!

DIY: Painted Bottles

I saw this great DIY project on apartment therapy that takes every day bottles and makes them fantastic and display worthy (or as I’d like to say “wow-worthy”)… The cost is minimal – some bottles and paint, and the result is extraordinary. Isn’t that what DIY is all about! Simple instructions via poppytalk:

1) After finding some bottles with great shape and detail, remove the labels, clean the inside and let them dry out completely

2) Next, pour a good size dollop of paint into the bottom of the bottle. The color options here are endless. This set is monochromatic, but a few bold contrasting pieces would be quite nice as well.

3) With the paint in the bottle, you will have to slowly rotate the bottle to get the paint to coat the entire interior of the bottle. Depending on the opacity of the paint, this might require two coats. (Acrylic paint will work for this as it will adhere to the glass, but note that you shouldn’t fill the bottle with water later.

4) Let it dry thoroughly and you are all set.

Update: check out one of my favorite bloggers Jamie from I Suwannee. She spotted this project and got right to work – the result is fantastic:

i’m thinking…

tumbleweed: tiny house company

This home is 89 square feet. Total. The Tumbleweed home was designed by Jay Shafer who since 1997 has been living in houses smaller than some people’s closets. His decision to inhabit just 89 square feet arose from some concerns about the impact a larger house would have on the environment. Jay Shafer’s homes fulfill basic domestic needs without demanding much in return. The Tumbleweed home DIY is $19,950, ready made costs $45,997. Check out the Tumbleweed website to see more varieties – some with 2 bedrooms – and see where the Tumbleweed home tour is heading next for a chance to visit and see what it would be like to live in such a small space yourself!

knob love

Sometimes something so subtle as changing a door knob can make a room feel remarkably different… While big and bold is nice, I am a huge believer that its the little surprise elements that go a long way…

lovely lucite

In recent months I have grown to really appreciate a bit of lucite in the home. I think lucite works especially well in small spaces or in rooms with bold colors or an oversize standout piece of art or bookshelf like this where having chairs would block a view or make a space appear more cluttered.

brooklyn brownstone

I am in awe of this home. The incredible sculpture above the fire place, the dining room table crafted from a fallen beech tree, the fantastic built-ins, the wood beams, the white floors… wow.

DIY: all purpose tray

I love simple DIY projects that spruce up plane and simple home accessories. It is such an affordable way to add something new and fresh to your living space. This DIY cork tray project was spotted at Design*Sponge.
Simple DIY instructions below but check out the website for more info.

prime and paint
cut cork into strips and weave
use a glue gun to secure

Who says a doormat hast to be boring? Show your doorway some love with these fantastic mats… I think my favorite is the mat number 2; made out of recycled flip flops it is eco-friendly to boot!

Trivia Question: Why are sewers round?
Answer in the comments and I will update with the answer later!

sweet little space

Talk about 800 square feet of awesomeness. I love the incorporation of color used in the kitchen and bathroom. And of course that living room – those dark wood floors, the chairs, the light… Who says bigger is always better?!

electric dining

Here in NYC the name of the game is multipurpose furniture for small spaces. While this isn’t a predicament I have faced I thought I’d share anyway. So, is your apartment too small for both piano and dining room table? fret no more! the piano table from Georg Bohle is quite a lovely looking solution.

vintage education maps

Russia
France
Eastern Europe

I am a huge fan of maps (especially vintage) and am always drawn to old educational maps for a number of reason… They show historical progression, have old style charm and it’s fun to imagine where these maps originally lived. These maps in particular have  awesome bold graphic design, feature simple pastel colors and emphasize the physicality of the landscape.
I could go on for days…

living bookends

so maybe fish aren’t the best choice for these glass “halve bookends” as they deserve a bit more room to swim… although buttons, a match box collection, corks, wild rice or even colored water would look fantastic on a bookshelf (and wouldn’t require being fed…)

white floors

white floors are a risky move, but this room makes me feel completely safe. how fantastic is the color of the couch? pretty obsessed at the moment. as for the media center – I am always a fan of clustered and mismatched framed art and this is no exception – however, I don’t know if I can get on board with that much distraction around the television. what do you think?

stack ‘em up

while I adore books shelves, there is something excellent about a deliberate stack.

fruit bowl

I’ve been on a serious clementine kick as of late. I’ve been buying them non stop and eating on average about 5 per day. Every time I buy a big bag I arrange them in a vase and use them as a centerpiece on our dining room table (while they last…). While it looks decent – these fruit bowls/baskets from Italian design store Alessi would really make a much more lovely statement.

celebrity living

I have always been a huge fan of Julianne Moore – and this glimpse into her NYC West Village Townhouse really just confirms her awesomeness. I mean, the bathroom – that bathtub!! The exposed beams in the kitchen!! The rustic accent pieces that are seen in each room!! The color gray!! Wow-worthy for sure.

I am a huge fan of subway tiles and am pretty certain they will make their way into my kitchen or bathroom whenever I get my dream house. Usually subway tiles are seen with white grout but I am really digging the look of classic subway tile with dark grout in these pictures.

I am loving all the turmeric (yellow) that is included in west elm’s current

bookshelf awesomeness

I would much prefer spending my day doing work in this room instead of my freezing apartment. I love the clean white bookshelves and the amazing dark wood floors. I am not always a huge fan of lucite but I love the fact that these chairs don’t obstruct the view and add modern elegance to this simple yet classic space.

These mosaic glass tiles from Bisazza are absolutely stunning. I’ve never seen anything like this before. A style that can appear so dated done with such modern awesomeness. Tres chic!

After spending an hour walking around the French 50s 60s furniture store in Venice the other day I came to the conclusion that this is one of my favorite periods of design. I literally wanted everything…

coco chanel mini bar

Modern design meets fashion icon producing the limited edition “Coco” mini bar, which has been hand-finished by drizzling Chanel nail polish over the white lacquered exterior. The compact and modern drinks cabinet is perfect for home dining and launched with the MoMA store in New York last Autumn. Now designer Leonhard Pfeifer has applied Chanel No. 159 Fire Red, the classic movie star shade, and No. 18 Rouge Noir worn by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, to create a piece that exudes passion.
