desk calendar

Although I can hardly believe it, I am starting to come to terms with the fact that 2010 is literally just around the corner. What this does means is that it’s time to pick up a 2010 calendar. This one is by far the best I’ve seen. Each calendar is custom made – beginning with a monogram and then choosing from a variety of amazing graphic prints for the border. The best part is that each fabulous border design completely covers the back side so at the end of the month your calendar becomes frame worthy wall art… Obsessed. dabney lee at home, $25

underground home

Have you ever seen anything like this? This underground home is in the swiss village of Vals. I cannot get over the striking view of the alps that can be seen from the entry way. Wow!

morris memo

Morris stores your blank notes until you need them. He can also display your memo’s so they don’t get missed or forgotten. I think all desks would be better with a bit of help from Morris.

map it out

I love maps. I have a 17th century world map that I purchased in Madrid years ago over my desk. Looking at the world just never gets old…

absolutely stunning

I’m in absolute awe over these spectacular pieces by shine by s.h.o… Picking these three images to share was not an easy task. I could have posted so many more…. Wonderfully bold and beautiful!

wood and lacquer

I love the simplicity and the beautiful use of color on these wood chopsticks, plates, and cups.
I really love the chopsticks. They are by far the most lovely I have seen.

let’s get organized

I want an entire wall that is covered with these Vitra Uten Silo Wall Organizers.

indoor garden

The Kiikku planter holds four porcelain square pots that are perfectly positioned up a walnut ladder. Leaning directly on the wall for support, this simple and elegant piece creates a vertical indoor greenhouse. This is the type of thing perfect for smalls spaces.

laser cut

I am really digging these hand made laser cut out art pieces. The intricate details are amazing. I bet if mounted on the wall a certain way they would cast pretty brilliant shadows as well.

stylish tea lights

These antiqued mercury glass bottles are actually recycled beer bottles transformed & restyled! Inside is a metal cup tea light holder & the bottle is topped with an iron wire loop for hanging. I love this look. ($26)

everybody needs art

20×200 is a project created by Jen Bekman based on the realization
that there are a lot of people who want to buy art and a lot of people
making art, they just have a hard time finding each other.
She realized this fantastic formula:
(limited editions x low price) + the internet = art for everyone.
Two limited editions pieces are introduced each week and are available in
different sizes, prices, and edition count – starting at $20. I love that artists
have an opportunity to explain their method and style, giving potential
buyers real insight into their creative process. This is a site worth checking out…

for the tree

I was going to hold off on doing an ornament post until closer to christmas time but since now’s the time to decorate that tree I figure why bother waiting. These are a few of my most favorite ornaments that I have spotted recently…

decorative veggies

These veggie candles would make excellent centerpieces. I haven’t decided if my favorite is the pea pod or the bunch of asparagus.

electric color

One of my favorite things about Design*Sponge is the sneak peak feature which takes readers on tours of  homes around the world. They are always such magnificent spaces, with unique style and amazing detail. This one I found to be particularly striking because of the use of neon colors mixed with lush leathers and earth tones. This home is in Paris and belongs to Parisian stylist Ombline de Kersabiec and I just cant get over how elegant and classic this space is even with such bold, vibrant and perhaps risky use of color.

Right now I have Thymes’ Tamarind Lychee candle lit next to me as I do some work in preparation for the week… It smells so lovely.

Today these are my favorite candles…

I am always looking for new favorites! What are yours?

city print

I forgot how much I love these Ork City Neighborhood Posters until I came home and saw the Los Angeles one hanging on the wall of my parent’s house. Each city (and there are many more then the ones above…) comes in poster or screen print version and a few different colors. Every time I look at ours I notice a new neighborhood! ($22-$27)

this is not ikea

The concept of This is Not Ikea is to provide a place where cool, unique, and vintage furniture is available to people at an IKEA price. They are located in LA but will ship all over the country. New items are added to the website every Monday and Tuesday. This is absolutely one of the best collections of vintage goods I have ever seen. The affordable prices make it my new obsession.

vintage warhol framed cow print: $115
vintage blue plastic letters: $15 each
chrome arc lamp with white acrylic shade: $245
vintage art deco iron and textured glass stacking tables: $65, $75, $85, $95
6 kartell victoria ghost chairs: $185
mid century black vinyl chrome and wood armchair: $145

gift idea: custom signs

This is one of my favorite gift ideas I’ve seen all season. Three Potato Four has partnered with an accomplished painter to create custom metal signs. Each sign is hand painted on white aluminum and then distressed to give it that always desired “vintage” look. All you have to do is provide the name you want on the sign and then pick the type of shop – Cupcakes, Sno Cones, Go Carts, Hoagies, Surf Shop or Dry Goods. Then, select the color you’d like the name painted – choices are emerald green, blue, red and orange. After that, count down to delivery!

I’m thinking Ariel’s Surf Shop would go well with my on going collection of mermaid trinkets and beach themed art.

decorative paper

Kate’s Paperie has the best selection of decorative paper. I have used these sheets as wallpaper, wrapping paper for special gifts, for collage, and have even framed entire sheets creating affordable art. You can always count on rich textures and vibrant colors to add that special touch to any decorative project. Sigh…

balloons

How cool are these Eternal Helium Balloons? They are not actually filled with helium, but made from fabric and stuffed with a pillow like material. A flap is located at the top of the balloon for hanging from the ceiling and the higher they are, the more successful the illusion of a floating helium balloon becomes…

lush life down under

This house is designed by Bayden Goddard Deisgn in Australia’s Gold Coast. I love every inch of it. The wide open space, contemporary furniture and fixtures, the blend of wood tones, and of course, the proximity to the beach… It’s an oasis.

DIY: book page wreath

book wreath wall favorite
While I enjoy holiday decor, I adore non-traditional holiday decor, like these wreaths made from book pages. I am so impressed by the ruffled texture and am obsessed with the vintage feel… And literature lovers fear not – most of these wreaths were made using mass market fiction or found materials. Step by step instructions can be found at Living with Lindsay

kitschy lighting

moose head lightI like this take on the traditional wall mounted moose head, not only because no animals have been harmed, but because the materials used in construction make this light fit for indoor and outdoor use. Designed by Trond Svendgard & Ove Rogne

stick with blik

Wall decals are one of the easiest ways to transform a room and for that reason I am a huge fan. This is the perfect alternative for those looking to add color or style to a space without the commitment to something more permanent, like paint or wallpaper. These decals are cheap, easy to apply, easy to remove and some are even reusable.

This grandfather clock decal is in my apartment entry way. We added a working clock to the face, bringing it to life…
wall stickerHere are a few of the more simpler decals from Blik

There are so many great themes to choose from – cityscapes, animals, arcade games, music, pop art and fine art – to name a few… Oh, it’s also possible to customize and design your own!

I recently purchased these two photos from etsy seller Bueller

isola

alora ambiance isolaI love diffusers because they are visually quite pretty and do wonders for freshening up a room. For the past four years my scent of choice in my bedroom has been Isola from Alora Ambiance. This fragrance is a blend of gardenia, tuberose and fig which I find perfectly light, clean and reminiscent of paradise (turns out this scent was inspired by Hawaii…). Today I realized my current bottle is nearly empty and I have a decision: do I stick with Isola or try something new?

What do you think?
Let me know in the comments if you have a scent to recommend…

feeling crafty?

craft DIY image

Today my friend told me about the greatest website ever: save-on-crafts. This website sells anything and everything your crafty and DIY loving heart could desire. From apothecary jars, feathers, and variety of natural touches (shown above) to all you need to create jewelry and decorations – they carry a variety of lights, paper lanterns, ribbons and tulle to name a few. They have a section devoted to crafting ideas for finding inspiration and instructions for more projects then you can imagine. With affordable wholesale prices, my biggest problem is going to be finding enough occasions to showcase my newly constructed centerpieces and decorations.

DIY: wine bottle vases

wine bottle vase 1I spotted this awesome DIY project on Design*Sponge last week. Not only do I love the way these wine bottles turned vases are mounted on the wall, I love the way they are framed by the painted square. Click here for step-by-step instructions to recreate this project on your own.
